JULY 2005
Well, it was a spotty start to the month… but that didn’t stop Callum getting his first kiss! Callum developed a rash, but other than that he was perfectly well. However, he had been invited to a pool party to celebrate the First Communion of one of our friends; Joseph. We were a little concerned about Callum going in case he spread anything to the other kids, so we went to the NHS Walk-In Centre that morning to get him checked out. Everything was ok and we were told that it was nothing to worry about, just a childhood rash. I joked that he was obviously allergic to not being breastfed anymore! So, Callum went to the party. He loves playing with Joseph, although he’s 8, he has a lots of time (and energy!) for Callum. They really are partners in crime. Callum also likes playing with Lucy who is Joseph’s little cousin. What can I say about Lucy? Lucy is a pretty little girl, 3 months younger than Callum. There is no doubt that Lucy is currently the love of Callum’s life. We use the ‘L’ sign for her name, and we are surprised to see just how often he thinks about her. From the moment he gets up, to the moment he goes to bed, Callum signs for Lucy. It appears that the feeling may be mutual. Lucy and Callum played together throughout the party. Every time Callum walked past Lucy he would feed her something... crisps, chicken, bread, etc. Lucy shared her juice with Callum (he doesn’t normally like juice – now we know different!). As the day went on, Callum and Lucy eventually shared their first kiss. Awww it was so sweet. Lucy’s Dad, Chris, managed to catch the moment on camera. See the photo gallery for the evidence! Now there is no looking back. In fact, before he will go to bed, Callum currently insists on us putting Lucy’s picture on the laptop so that he can kiss her goodnight! Recently they were sharing a ‘moment’ round at Lucy’s Grandparents house (they live close by)… the hugging and kissing was so intense that they both fell over and Lucy banged her head on the cooker. Poor girl, she was so upset. Of course, Callum cried with her in sympathy… then Lucy cried more because Callum was crying… so Callum got more upset… and on it went until they both eventually calmed down! We went away to my Mum & Dad’s caravan around the time of our 15th wedding anniversary (fifteen years! Our kid should be in high school… not nappies!!!). We nearly didn’t go though because as we were about to set off, Callum fell and bumped his head in the yard. There was no blood, but there was a large deep dent in his forehead that you could put your thumb into. It was awful. Obviously we had to get him checked out at the hospital. They decided not to admit him, they just sent us away with the usual information about head injuries and recommended that we try not to let him injure is head again for 3 or 4 weeks. How silly was that? Do they think we normally make a point of letting him hurt himself? Don’t get me wrong, they weren’t making us feel suspect, it was all very routine, but quite frankly, we TRY not to let him injure his head all the time – but he’s a toddler, they are built to scare their parents! We had a great time at the seaside. We went to Sewerby Park each evening for a stroll… Callum was determined to catch a squirrel. It was so much fun watching him run around after them, he just wouldn’t give up! Well, I think that’s about it for now, I am going to go start looking at what we need to pack for our holiday in August. See ya, Amanda xXx
