DECEMBER 2005 Callum is still being plagued with stomach upsets and heavy colds. He has also had another water infection… and this time the antibiotics were making him very, very sore on his bottom. He really disliked the taste too, it made him wretch. In fact, as you can see for the pic at the top of the page, he hated taking it. It even put him off taking the Calpol and Ibuprofen we had been using to relieve the pain and lower his temperature. Callum’s appointment with the Consultant came through for this month… they have decided not to operate just yet, but they are a little concerned that Callum may have a slight problem with his kidneys, so we are now waiting for an appointment for a scan. Those bottom canines have finally come through this month. One is fully through and quite well grown, the other has just peeped out from under his gum, but it was broken the surface. Callum visited the clinic this month… he now weighs 27lbs 2ozs and is 87.5cm tall. Although Callum only started pre-school last month, and he has already had some time off due to being sick, his speech is coming on a treat. He was making great headway anyway, so I don’t attribute it all to starting pre-school, but it may well have contributed to his progress. Talking of school… we got our very first Christmas card made by Callum. They had luckily done them on one of the days that Callum was actually there. It’s so sweet, it is a reindeer made from a foot print. I have scanned it and put it in the Oct-Dec 05 Photo Gallery... also in that Photo Gallery, check out the picture of Callum when he fell asleep on top of the box for our new tv! The recent festivities have been overshadowed by the poor health and subsequent passing away of my beloved Gran . She died on 29th December and will be sadly missed; very few people have ever loved, or been loved, with the same intensity as my Gran. Goodnight Gran, rest peacefully. Callum loved all the lights and festivities of Christmas. Although he is too young to understand the whole ‘Santa’ thing, he really got into the spirit of it. All Christmas morning, as we unwrapped presents, he quietly chanted “open, open, open”. In fact, he still has outbursts now and we have to explain that he has done all the ‘opening’ for this year! Boxing Day confused him, he really expected to come down and do it all again! Christmas Day went well. We cooked lunch for us, my Mum & Dad, my brother Andrew and Shaun’s Mum. It went really well. Just as we finished lunch, Shaun’s brother and sister-in-law (Kevin and Carol) came to bring Callum his present. It really felt like a ‘family’ day, it was lovely. One of the presents that Callum got was an outdoor playhouse. We built it up so that he could play outside (wrapped up warm of course!) whilst I got on with cooking dinner. Poor Uncle Andy was repeatedly summoned to the house. As I prepared the dinner I looked out of the window to see our Andy squat down inside this child sized playhouse, shivering with cold... but playing the part and still smiling. If he dared to escape into the warm for a while, Callum soon dragged him back. Lesson learned: if you come for Christmas dinner at our house, bring a warm coat! I only wish I had taken the time to break off from preparing the dinner to take a photo. Never mind, I'm sure Callum will have his Uncle Andy in there again! After doing all the entertaining on Christmas Day, it was off to my brother’s house for Boxing Day. There was the three of us, my Mum & Dad, and our Andrew and Luke. We had a really good time. We stayed for lunch and then on into the evening. Shaun and I came home late that night, but Callum stopped over with Luke and his Uncle Andy (something they all enjoyed!). My parents also stayed over. We just made the most of the peace and quiet at home… catching up on some DVD’s and getting a full night’s sleep, including a bit of a lie in! New Year was spent at my parents’ house, with our Andrew and Luke too. It was a quiet night, I think in light of recent events, we were all a little subdued and tired. Andrew, Luke and Callum were all in bed before seeing the New Year in. My Mum, Dad, Shaun and me managed to hang on in there until 2006 happened, then we went home and left my Mum and Dad to go to bed. Callum stayed the night with them… literally with them! He went to bed at 10pm, but woke up a little before 2am and moved in to his Grandma and Grandad’s bed… my poor Dad ended up with very little space in the bed. Check out the 'Celebrations' page in the Photo Gallery for festive pics! Well, that’s it for now… best wishes to one and all for 2006! Amanda xXx |
