FEBRUARY 2007 So, as the month started I was enjoying my week at home with Callum. We were having a great time. Doing lots of things together, some planned, some quite spur of the moment. One chilly day we drove past Pontefract Park/Race Course on our way into Pontefract to do some shopping. I decided we should have a picnic by the lake. So, while shopping I got some paper plates and some hot food from the deli bar… chicken, potato wedges etc. and then we headed off to the park. It was freezing cold at the side of the lake but it didn’t stop us having our picnic on a park bench while we watched the ducks and swans on the lake. It was one of those relax and special days that you just know that you will treasure forever. The school holidays in early February can only mean one thing to a child like Callum… Thomas the Tank Engine is at York Railway Museum! Of course, we took him. We had a good day, it was a little different than before, and Callum was disappointed that Percy wasn’t there, but still, we had a great time. We also went on the York Eye (the North’s version of the London Eye Big Wheel). We weren’t sure if Callum would lie it, so we went on there first telling him we could try and find Thomas from up in the air… he loved it and got so excited when he could see the engines from way up high. Callum joined in two birthday celebrations this month… our friend Ryan had a birthday party at Alphabet Zoo in Wakefield (Rob, Ryan’s Dad had his birthday the same day, but decided against a party!! Heehee). The second celebration was with his Grandad, we all went out for a meal to celebrate my Dad’s 60th birthday. After my week off, I really did not look forward to taking Callum back to school. I braced myself for another tearful separation. To my surprise, I took him in and after a few minutes he just gave me a kiss and said “ok, you can go now”. Kids! Never put your money on them! We had our visit at the Nursery, Callum loves it! It really helped that they had a Thomas book in the bookcase, this meant the place really went up in Callum’s estimations. It was a well organised morning actually. Callum got to have a good look around inside and out and play with the other kids and Shaun and I got lots of information about the place and how they operate. Towards the end of the session, the teachers put on a little tea-party including a cake with candles on to wish them ‘happy starting day’. It was quite sweet. Callum started with another cold/cough this month. He seems to be getting them so often, but I guess he has still to build up his immunities. His cough got so troublesome and he ended up being quite sick. He’s on the mend now though. Well, better go now. See ya, Amanda & Co. xXx
