JULY 2007 We are starting to pick up the pieces after last month. Callum is back to normal now and enjoying the fact that he has been at Nursery long enough now to be getting birthday party invitations! We do still have nights were he doesn’t sleep too well though, it seems the trauma of his stay in hospital is being replayed in his dreams. We were so behind with our packing to move house, but caught up as much as we could… given our house is being bought by my brother (and we are buying his!) it does allow for some flexibility on moving day. He is being a star and has said he doesn’t mind if some things are left behind for a while. In and amongst all the chaos I needed to find time to buy a newer car. My Peugeot (Ziggy) was getting old and although he was running fine, we thought it was wise to change before he started costing us too much in upkeep. As the MOT was due early August, we needed to get him part-exchanged asap. I got a little 1.2 Clio, a nice little car, but not the same as the 306 XSI. I was (and sill am) missing that car… and I don’t think Callum will ever forgive me for getting rid of it! Every day he tells me he didn’t want us to sell Ziggy… it’s so hard to explain the reasons behind it to a 3 year old, especially when you agree with him! Callum had his first ever ‘sports day’ at school this month. Oh it was lovely to see him. He managed to win one of his races, although he did cause a false start to begin with, and if I’m honest, he set off a smidge too early on the re-run! He had a great time. We were surprised to learn that there was to be an end of term play at nursery – we had thought that the only plays were Christmas ones. It turns out that Callum’s nursery does an end of term play every term, at the end they present certificates and gifts to the kids that are moving on to full time school. It’s quite sweet really. The play was lovely. They do action songs for the littler kids, then the bigger ones put on a bit of a play. Callum, being a ‘younger one’, was in the singing bit. He was a stick of Filey rock! The play that was done by the older children was ‘The Hungry Caterpillar’. There are times that being a parent really is priceless… and watching your child in the school/nursery play is one of those times. Something quite funny that happened this month was that Callum fell asleep while eating a packet of crisps. Despite being so obviously asleep he still carried on eating them! If you’ve not seen it, ask me to show you the video clip on my phone next time you see me! Ironically, our first night in our new home was to be our 17th Wedding Anniversary. I quite liked the sentimentality… new beginnings and all that. So, my Mum and Dad had Callum at the caravan for us on the weekend of the move. Although he did come back on Sunday evening in time to ‘help’ with one van run. It’s small things that make kids happy isn’t it. We put his car seat in the van and you would have thought we had given him the world! He felt so grown up to be helping Daddy and Uncle Andy. We decided that Callum would stay in our room until we got his bedroom decorated… this would help with him settling in, and meant that his room would be easier to work in as it was uninhabited. Callum had great fun helping Grandad and Daddy build our new bedroom furniture! We wanted to do Callum’s room first as we are planning lots of changes and we appreciate that it may seem chaotic at times to Callum. We wanted to prove that when we say things are going to be done, then they will be. Callum is getting excited as we are going on holiday to Wales next month… it will be our 3rd visit to Plwmp. Towards the end of the month, Callum had a follow-up appointment at the hospital to make sure that there were no lasting effects from the meningitis. He was terrified when we went into the hospital. Shaun was working, so my Dad came along for support. It broke my heart when we had to peel Callum’s fingers off the chair to forcibly get him into the Consultant’s room. The Consultant was very understanding though as she has witnessed his stay in hospital and was fully aware of the reason behind his fear. The good news is that there are no lasting complications or effects. Well, we are going to be very busy for a few months, so I suppose I ought to go do something more constructive! ‘Til next time, take care, Amanda xXx
