MARCH 2006

Well, Callum is well and truly on the mend… nothing more than a troublesome cough now.  He has started eating much more and is quickly regaining the weight that he lost last month.

Callum is also being more enthusiastic about last months visit to see Thomas the Tank Engine and his friends at York.  He regularly asks to go see them all again.  It’s been very sweet, but it has also been rather heartbreaking too.

Let me explain… One evening, Callum was sharing my food at tea-time after already eating his (told you his appetite was back!).  Shaun was in the kitchen cooking something for himself as we had all fancied something different.  Shaun was doing himself a burger on the griddle.  All of a sudden, Callum started saying ‘steam out, steam out’.  It took a while, but then I realised that the sound of the burger cooking was reminding him of the noise that Percy made (at York) when he was letting off steam.  I shouted Shaun to come and hear Callum saying this as I thought it was sweet.  Before Shaun could get there, Callum’s words changed and he was acting very strange.  He was talking really quietly and was starting to shake all over.  His words gradually became louder and I made out what he was saying… he was chanting “Percy’s outside, Percy’s outside!!”  Just as Shaun arrived at the doorway, Callum had reached quite a loud level and, shaking with excitement, he shouted one last time “Percy’s outside!!!” before smiling uncontrollably and running out towards the back door shouting that he wanted to go outside to see Percy.  Bless him, poor kid.  I then had the awful job of explaining that Percy was not outside and that it was his Dad’s burger that was making all the noise.  I would have given anything to have had Percy outside to make him happy.  It was made me think of how one day we will have to face the seasonal illusion/misconception… oh how I am dreading that one!

Callum is starting to get more and more into nursery rhymes and doing their actions… he is starting to sing along and join in more.

Callum is really getting into washing up too.  Although he has loved to help out for a while, now you only have to turn the tap on and he starts dragging a chair over to stand on.  He even does it when we are out visiting.  We caught him on camera washing up for his Auntie Dawny... see the Photo Gallery.  No such thing as a free lunch eh?

There’s nothing much else to report really for March, we will see what April brings.

Bye for now,

Amanda xXx
