MAY 2008
Well, Callum is still nagging us to learn him Spanish! We are doing our best to find him a tutor, but there don't seem to be any in our area that are will to teach a 4 year old! We'll keep trying though, he is obviously eager. We were really pleased to meet baby Violet this month. Anna and Paul brought her up for the day, she is absolutely gorgeous. They have taken to parenthood really well, they are naturally relaxed with her. I'm sure Anna would tell me otherwise, but I actually think that she is looking younger and more radiant than ever. Motherhood obviously suits her. Callum spent some time during the holidays at the caravan with Luke, Uncle Andy, Grandma and Grandad. He had a whale of a time! When we went to pick him up we stayed for one night and then took him over to Flamborough to visit our friends Melanie, Ian & Co. at their caravan. Callum loves going there... maybe because they let him play on their Wii! On our way home from the coast we got a text message from Dawny, unfortunately our friends hamster had died. We knew this wouldn't go down well with Callum, so we took the decision not to tell him for a day or two as it was late, we had to get home and he would have been too upset to sleep. When we did tell Callum about Murphy, he was devastated. He cried for days. It's the first time he has experienced someone/something dying and it is hard for him to understand. We have to keeping explaining that something dying is like something being broken that can't be fixed. We wish we could make it easier on him, it's awful seeing him so upset. We finally got to the bottom of the disturbed nights he was having at Blackpool. A couple of months ago a friend had joked about putting him in a cupboard. At the time, Callum had found it funny, but obviously it had come back to him in a dream and frightened him. Maybe waking on the top bunk so close to the ceiling of the caravan made him think he had, in fact, been put in a cupboard. We talked him through it and handled him with kid gloves for a few days and he was soon back to normal. Towards the end of the month we took Callum, Bradleigh and Nicola to Creepy Crawlies. We hadn't been there long when I decided to take Bradleigh up on to the big slide. Bradleigh was excited and was off like a shot. As I ran after him, worried that he may fall and hurt himself, I jumped down a short step and heard a cracking sound that still haunts me today. I felt pain and nausea like I have never known. A woman nearby asked if I was ok as she too had heard the snap. As I struggled to stay conscious I told her that I thought I had broken my ankle. I shouted to Callum to ask him to go get his Daddy, I then shouted really loud for Shaun before passing out. It turned out that I had not broken it, but the Drs said I would have been in much less pain if I had. I had torn all the ligaments in my ankle. My ankle was so bad that I could not look after Callum while Shaun was at work. My folks were at the Caravan, so Shaun drove me half way there and they drove half way back to collect me. They then helped with looking after Callum and I was on one level for the most of the time, which did make it easier. Our friends Craig and Kim got married on the last day of the month. I had promised to ice their wedding cake and did not want to let them down despite being on crutches! I managed to do it by standing on one leg with the other knee rested on a stool! Congrats Craig and Kim!! We wish you love, luck and good health for your future happiness. Take care, Amanda xXx
