OCTOBER 2006

Callum’s last month as a two year old…..

Callum has had a different friend around to play one of the days this month… in the form of next door’s dog!  What happened was that Callum and I were playing outside when we heard a very loud bang that made us jump.  It also scared Diza the dog who was outside in next door’s garden.  Following the bang, Diza was fretting and just couldn’t settle down.  After 5-10 minutes, I decided that I would have to bring her round to our house to calm her down a little (our neighbour wasn’t home).  By this point, Callum was back in the house playing with his trains.  As soon as he heard the sound of claws on the kitchen floor, he instantly knew that Diza was in the house.  He came running to see her.  So much for me thinking I could give her safe harbour where it would be quiet and calm… Callum wouldn’t leave her alone:  “Diza, look at my toys”… “Diza, look at my wooden track”… “Diza let’s play on the carpet”… Diza look at my cars”…  Poor dog.  She seemed to enjoy the attention though.  Callum was gutted when she went home.

On the 28th of this month, some friends of ours, Craig and Kim, had a baby.  A beautiful little girl called Elizabeth (Libby)… check the Photo Gallery for a pic.  Just as we thought we would never get a baby, Craig and Kim had originally been told that they wouldn’t have one either.  Another little miracle!!!  Libby is a new cousin to Bradleigh who was born in January.

With Halloween approaching, we tried to get Callum to agree to us buying him a costume, but he just didn’t want one.  We resided ourselves to the fact that Halloween would be a bit of a non-event this year.

A few days before Halloween though, we found out that the local Gospel Hall was having a kids Halloween party… it was aimed at all ages, so even though it was to be fancy dress, there was a ‘no scary costumes’ rule.  They also made sure that there were no spooky decorations in the hall – that way the smaller kids felt ok.

Lucy was there too, she looked stunning… check the photo galleries.  Lucy had her face painted and we hoped Callum would too… but no amount of coercing was gonna make him do it… or so we thought.  Right out of the blue, some 45 mins or so later, Callum decided that he wanted to be painted to look like a piggy.  He waited in the queue patiently, and they when it came to his turn, he sat very still and let the lady do her stuff.  We had expected him wriggle and squirm, but he didn’t. He loved looking like a pig and was devastated when it came to washing it off for bed.

All in all, it was a good Halloween party… even if some of the party games that the older kids were playing were a bit gross… for example, one of the games they had them doing was chewing gum modelling:  the kids were put into teams and a leader chosen, then they all had to chew gum after a few minutes, the team leader had to collect all the gum from their team and make a model with it… YUK!  You don’t expect Gospel Hall helpers to come up with such games!  They are very in tune with kids there… they hold some great fun days for them.

Well, that’s about it for this month… next step 3 eh?

Take care,

‘til next time,

 Amanda xXx
